Purchased the iOS 8 version for Kindle to use in getting up to speed with my new iPad Air a huge upgrade from my old original iPad.
My new iPad is getting a workout. My husband's iPad 2 is being put through its paces as well - oh, the things he never knew. I'm aware I could scrounge around and find instructions on this stuff eventually yes, I have the Apple users guide , but what a great shortcut for the learning curve.
Easy to read and logically organized, it's a real jumpstart for iPad users! Paperback Verified Purchase. The pages are white matte and slick. The font is a medium size which looks to be size There is plenty to learn even if you think you know everything. It explains things like the 7 kinds of finger controls and changing the color balance of photos.
Also panoramic shots, trimming videos, time lapse modes, panning, auto enhancing, cropping, adjusting colors, adjusting lighting of shots, all about included apps, deleting and rearranging, timers, stopwatch, explaining iCloud and iTunes, podcasts and hundreds of other subjects. It's a great book! My biggest issue is the small print and nearly unreadable skinny font. The light black print is also an issue.
Never in all my life have I seen any book written with this type of frilly font, especially for a tech manual.
What purpose is making the book more portable by making it smaller, then using thicker paper causing the weight of the book ridiculous. I am considering returning it and getting the kindle version.
2. Tour Your iPad - iPad: The Missing Manual, 4th Edition [Book]
I do better with book version for tech stuff and am so irritated. I will update later. This is a comprehensive and entertaining training manual for anyone who buys an iPad Air 2 like I did. I didn't know anything about Apple products.
iPad: The Missing Manual, 4th Edition
This book had everything I needed to learn how to work with this tablet. My only complaint is that it was rather expensive for an e-book. I got the Kindle version so I could have it right on the Kindle app on the iPad Air 2 so that I could go back-and-forth as I read - implement things that I learned while reading. I highly recommend this book. Kindle Edition.

Paperback Verified Purchase. I am not great at writing book reviews but I'm going to try with this book. I bought my first iPad two months ago 3rd generation and I was reassured at the time that it was an "intuitive product" and very easy to learn all the details as I went along.
What my Son, daughter-in-law and 3 grandsons didn't know was that for me "intuitive" was not good enough.
Sure, I could turn my iPad on, adjust the volume on a video, make pages larger or smaller, search the net Safari , buy some interesting apps and load up on some free ones. But how do I lock the screen so it stays horizontal, not vertical? And now that I have fun apps how do I organize them into folders on my home page so I don't have to spend 5 minutes figuring out what page to scroll to for "photography" apps or where all the "Blog" pages are yes, I have them divided by politics conservative, libertarian, liberal.
And I have Blogs that are economic, house related, entertainment, games, medical, financial, etc. Organized for my convenience thanks to this book and one other "My iPad. This book is well written, explains things easily and the author has a wonderful sense of humor.
TY for writing this book! Not a bad book, but depending on your knowledge level, you might learn very little. I am no expert, but I did feel like the nuggets of information were few and far between. Much of the book is expecting as if you hadn't even turned the thing on -- that you've kept it in the box waiting for this book to arrive.
So it's a fast read, and that made it even faster, since I've owned it for 3 months. I think you could have found most of this on your own, by reading the Apple owner manual, etc.
And there wasn't a lot of reviews of apps, etc. I do like David Pogue, and the writing style. I also can't say that there's a better book, just that I didn't feel like my point of reference I learned a lot. There were two major factors that prompted me to buy this aftermarket manual -I had bought other books in the Missing Manuals series and I had read online reviews about this book. I ordered the book before I had even purchased my iPad and it really helped me to quickly get up to speed on this new technology. The book is well written and gives concise, to the point and detailed instructions on how to use the iPad.
One person found this helpful. There is a current, updated, IPad: The Missing Manual which has all the latest info. I bought an older manual for a song , because I have an IPad 1, so this book works out great for me. If I ever upgrade, I'll purchase the newest edition of Biersdorfer's book. It explains all the uses of your IPad in an easily understandable way. It's well done. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This manual was very helpful after buying my iPad.
Anytime I had a question I always was able to find the answer in this book. It took away some of the stress of owning a new iPad. I didn't have to look for a phone number or wait for a response from an Internet site to continue working on my iPad.
This is a superbly written and illustrated operation manual that covers the three versions of the iPad now available. The easy style of writing together with easily understood and well-explained steps, methods, and hints make it a pleasure to read and quickly acquaints the reader with the many functions, features and shortcuts that increase the enjoyment of using this terrific device. Worth every penny of the price. Get this book first so that you won't miss anything when you setup your new iPad.
If you are searching for a fairly complete and detailed iPad manual, this is it. If you want a quick reference with tips, don't choose this book. It is more detailed with lots of information and therefore is not a quick and easy reference guide. However, I love it and found it very useful. I have found the I Pad somewhat challenging to navigate.
Part of this may be that I am not an Apple computer user but rather the Microsoft variety. There still seems to be many things that this book does not answer. Fortunately I live close to an Apple store and can get a quick answer from their staff. I would say saver your money and use Safari more. See all reviews.
